Go snorkeling

My favorite thing about Lana‘i is the ocean, especially because of the opportunities you have to see live corals. I highly recommend a private snorkel trip withLanai Ocean Adventures, a company I’ve personally gone on experiences with. Our captain was a free diver and pointed out sea spiders, reef sharks, parrotfish, octopus and sea urchins. It was amazing, and we definitely saw more with the support of a guide than we would have on our own.

Do a jeep tour

Book a half-day jeep tour to go on a tour of the island and immerse yourself in the history of the island. The Garden of the Gods is a stunning location to visit – the red rock scenery makes you feel kind of like you’ve been transported to Mars. From there, you’ll have a great view of the ocean and all the surrounding islands.

You can also visit Shipwreck Beach, a gorgeous (and kid-friendly) beach. We relaxed on the beach and went snorkeling right off the shore to snorkel around the shipwreck. Ask me for recommendations on which jeep tour company to book with!

Get out on a hike

There are a lot of good hikes on the island. The Koloiki Ridge trail starts near Sensei and is a 6.8-mile moderate hike with spectacular ocean views. You’ll hike by gorgeous old trees as you go through incredible forests. It’s a great hike for families, even ones with little kids (my youngest is four years old and was able to complete the trip).

Play tennis

If you’re staying at the Four Seasons, have a few matches of tennis at the tennis center. The on-site tennis pro is a great coach, you have the option to either play against him or he can give you lessons.

Stroll through Lana'i town

The town center is super cute with lots of great shops, galleries and a little park. TheMike Carroll Galleryhas a lot of local Hawaiian artists and woodworkers.

Lunch and dinner:

Sensei by Nobu: Typical Nobu fare served in a glass pavilion near a beautiful garden. Adults only.

Nobu Lanai: Enjoy a beach view while enjoying Nobu’s celebrated sushi.

The Malibu: Delicious organic farm-to-table restaurant with tacos, salads, juices and smoothies.

Blue Ginger: Local favorite for Loco Moco, a very messy burger made with two homemade grilled beef patties, topped with two over easy eggs and homemade gravy with mushrooms.
