Lady Gaga Wants Meeting With President Obama To Make Bullying a Hate Crime The suicide of teenager Jamey Rodemeyer, a participant in the It Gets Better video campaign against bullying, has so shaken Lady Gaga that she's asked for a meeting with President Barack Obama with the intention of pushing to make bullying a hate crime. The singer, who was an idol for the teenager, announced on Twitter Wednesday, "The past days I've spent reflecting, crying, and yelling. I have so much anger. It is hard to feel love when cruelty takes someones life." She continued, "I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it. Trend it #MakeALawForJamey." Rodemeyer was a 14-year-old living in Buffalo, N.Y. who had endured taunts and bullying online about his hom*osexuality for over a year before finally ending his life on Sunday, Sept. 18. His parents found him outside the family home on that morning, though police have not revealed the cause of death. In his video for It Gets Better, helping gay teens learn to deal with excessive bullying, Rodemeyer called Gaga an inspiration, saying, "She makes me so happy. She lets me know that I was born this way." According to MTV News, the White House could not confirm that the singer had officially set up a meeting with the President. |

JamesG Freakshow Moderator Join Date: Feb 01, 2008 Location: Brooklyn, NY Posts: 51,559 | Lady Gaga Attends Obama Fundraising Event Lady Gaga was among the guests at a $35,800 per couple Obama fundraiser tonight at the home of Facebooks Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and David Goldberg in Atherton, Calif. At the event, which took place under a tent in Sandbergs yard, Gaga reportedly wore a black dress scalloped high plunge back and high heels. Her blond hair was upswept, with black flowers and black veil sweeping down back of hair. According to a source present in the tent fundraiser, Gaga asked a question during the Q&A. She first thanked the president for what hes accomplished, then read from what she said was a letter from a fan about the suicide of another fan who had been subjected to bullying. She thanked Obama for hosting his anti-bullying conference with Michelle Obama, and then made a general plea to everyone in the room, including the president, to do what they can to prevent bullying. Obama thanked her, spoke about his administrations anti-bullying campaign, and then more generally about the importance of values and who we are as Americans. Before the dinner, Gaga came through the photo line with her manager. She and Obama reportedly spoke for two minutes, with many others in the room. Gagas attendance at the fundraising event comes after the singer tweeted that she would be meeting the president and intended to discuss youth bullying with him in relation to the suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer, the 14-year-old student who took his own life last week after years of bullying. Gaga dedicated the song Hair to Rodemeyer at the iHeartRadio Festival this weekend in Las Vegas. The performance included a video tribute to Rodemeyer. |
