Does Samsung DeX drain more battery? ›

Therefore, if you run apps that require high processing speeds that take up resources through Samsung DeX, the amount of power used by your device will be greater than the amount supplied through the USB port. In this case, the battery level may still drop gradually even if you are charging the device.

Dex (short for Desktop eXperience) extends the Android Multi-Window or split-screen mode, allowing you to multitask easily between apps, tools, and devices. In DeX mode, you can see your full list of apps, access an on-screen keyboard, search for apps and items, and access and edit your phone's photos and files.

DeX has a fan to regulate its temperature. If an app requires a lot of power, or if an app runs for a long time, DeX responds by running the built-in fan. This helps it maintain optimal performance and prevents damage from overheating.

Disable DeX Mode

From the Samsung Dex screen, select Exit DeX. Note: Alternately, from the home screen, swipe down from the Notification bar with two fingers then select the DeX icon.

As its name indicates, screen mirroring simply mirrors your device screen on the connected monitor. Screen mirroring is useful in some circumstances, but DeX offers a much different, completely optimized desktop computing experience for productive work on a larger screen. Tap the notification to go into DeX mode.

Samsung DeX Wireless connection is supported with Smart TVs that support Miracast only. Make sure that screen mirroring is supported on the TV you want to connect to. It is recommended to use a Samsung Smart TV manufactured after 2019. Up to 5 apps can be operated at once on the TV via DeX mode.

The Dex website says it will be terminated in Jan '22. Its Feb '22 now. The download link is still there.

Can you use DeX without a computer? ›

However, in an emergency, DeX is a life saver allowing you to still be present and productive, and enabling you to still give presentations, take meetings, write notes, and fire off emails without access to a computer.

I am using Samsung Dex on my Samsung S21 FE. I found that battery drains fast during this time. So make sure when you buy accessory to connect Type C to female HDMI, it should have a charging port (PD) to charge the phone while using Dex. Luckily I had bought the one with the charging port.

The only things you can't do on DeX is stuff like running pc only games and app, things like steam. (Although if you really wanted to you could probably find a 3rd party workaround) but other than that DeX works just as well as any laptop for work.

The only thing is that Battery Drain can sometimes occur as a result of using Smart Switch (with older apps possibly being involved). If this was the case and it does not improve soon I would recommend clearing the cache partition.
