When the Adipurush teaser was released, people criticised it massively for its poor VFX and several other things. The makers who were planning to release the movie on Aug 11, 2022, worked on the entire movie again, especially on the VFX, and now the film is all set to be released on June 11.

Adipurush is budgeted at ₹500 crore (US$63 million)–₹700 crore (US$88 million) placing it in the list of most expensive Indian films. Adipurush was released on 16 June 2023 to negative reviews from critics, who criticised the film's screenplay, dialogues and visuals.

PIL Against Adipurush

Vishnu Gupta, National President of the Hindu Sena, has filed a PIL against the movie, asserting that it has mocked the Hindu epic Ramayana, Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, and Lord Hanuman. They also raised objections over Saif Ali Khan's character's bearded appearance and called it "ghastly".

Script and direction are poor. The writing and directing of Adipurush have drawn heavy criticism from critics. They claim that the film lacks consistency and fails to hold the audience's attention.

As expected it is an absolute flop.As it collect 281 crore till now. So it is expected that it will end up within 300 crore (1 crore collection in day 14). It has a massive budget of roughly around 500 to 600 crore. Even if it is based on a legendary story and plot, it felled to impress the audience.

Then the makers decided to make changes to the film. Reportedly, Saif was paid INR 12 crore for his portrayal. Sunny Singh: Sunny Singh was seen playing the role of Lakshman in the film.

'Adipurush' teaser lands makers in trouble over depiction of deities, call for boycott trends on Twitter. The portrayal of Hanuman, with a beard, without a moustache and dressed in leather, also attracted criticism.

'Adipurush' faced a lot of backlash for its dialogues as people felt it didn't live up to the divinity and authenticity of Ramayana. Especially, the dialogue said by Lord Hanuman, 'Kapda tere baap ka, Tel tere baap ka, Aag bhi tere baap ki, aur jalegi bhi tere baap ki' faced a lot of criticism.
